Where to take the ferry from Amalfi to Positano

Ferries and hydrofoils to Positano generally set sail from Molo Cassone in Amalfi, located at the eastern end of the Amalfi seafront. The port is about a 10-min walk from the Cathedral of Sant’Andrea, passing along the town’s promenade.

At the port, you’ll find cafés, restaurants and a few shops, as well as ticket offices, bus stops, and taxis, making it easy to reach from anywhere in Amalfi.

Where does the ferry arrive in Positano?

Ferries from Amalfi typically arrive at the main pier in Positano, located directly on Marina Grande beach, the town’s central seaside area. From here, you can get to the center of Positano in just a few minutes on foot.

Nearby the port, you’ll find cafés, restaurants and beach clubs with a view of Marina Grande, shops and boutiques, as well as boat tour operators and water taxis to explore more of the Amalfi Coast by sea. The pier is also a starting point for boat excursions to Capri, Amalfi, and nearby beaches.

How to get around Positano

Getting around Positano on foot is easy and convenient, as you can reach any part of the town in 15-20 min. However, as Positano is a cliffside village with lots of steep alleys and steps, you can always rent a moped or use the local buses which connect the highest streets to the historic center, where vehicles are not allowed.

If you arrive in Positano by car, bear in mind that the spaces on the street are mostly reserved for residents, and you can find free parking only in the areas of Nocelle and Montepertuso.

When to book Amalfi - Positano ferry tickets

The Amalfi - Positano ferry is one of the busiest short routes along the Amalfi Coast, especially in summer when road traffic is heavy.

To secure your spot in the high season (June-September), we recommend booking at least 2 weeks in advance. Ferries are most frequent during this period, but seats sell out quickly for the more popular crossings in the day, such as in the morning and early afternoon.

In the shoulder months, namely April-May and late September-October, booking a few days to a week ahead is usually enough, but it’s still wise to plan early for any trips on sunny weekends.

During the low season, which runs from November to March, ferries between Amalfi and Positano are less frequent, but you can usually afford to book a few days before traveling.
