Once a quiet fishing village, Playa Blanca has evolved into the second biggest resort of Lanzarote, but this evolution has thankfully respected the island’s terrain and architecture, which follows the traditional Canarian white-washed style to this day.
Playa Blanca is a true beach lover’s haven. At its heart lies Playa Dorada, a family-friendly beach known for its calm waters and convenient amenities. Nearby, Playa Flamingo is another favorite for swimming and snorkeling. Meanwhile, Playa Blanca is a windsurfing and kitesurfing hub, offering ideal conditions especially in April and October. More experienced surfers head to the wave of Punta Elena, known as one of the best 13 surf spots in the Canary Islands.
At night, the action moves around the Marina Rubicón, a cosmopolitan yacht marina. Playa Blanca has a more low-key nightlife compared to other resorts in Lanzarote, but that doesn’t mean that there is not a chance you will bump into a celebrity at one if its elegant and glamorous bars, including the popular Café del Mar.
And if you are more into nature gazing than people spotting, adventure awaits at the Timanfaya National Park, where hundreds of volcano cones, massive lava fields and extraordinary rock formations that create a mesmerizing, almost Martian landscape. Or you can head to Museo Atlántico, Lanzarote’s underwater museum, located off the coast near Playa Blanca.
