Exploring Gran Canaria and Tenerife in a camper van

Among the Canary Islands, Tenerife and Gran Canaria are arguably the most suitable for a camper van vacation. Tenerife has the most developed camping infrastructure, but you will find campsites, camper van rentals, and supply stores on both islands.

It is important to note that while local authorities are generally tolerant of overnight parking, wild camping is strictly prohibited in the Canary Islands.

So, which is better: Tenerife or Gran Canaria?

Both islands have plenty to offer, but ultimately, the best choice depends on the kind of holiday you're after.

If you dream of relaxing on the beach, then Gran Canaria is ideal, with its golden sands, safe swimming spots and sunny weather all year long. On the other hand, if you're more into hiking through forests and volcanic landscapes, then Tenerife should be at the top of your list.
