- Naviera Armas and Trasmediterranea allow you up to 4 items of luggage with a maximum combined weight of 60 kg. The ferry companies also offer trolleys to transport your baggage.
Traveling with pets
Pets are allowed on all ferries serving the Tenerife - Gran Canaria routes, provided you include them in your booking. Depending on the ferry company, you may have the option of bringing your four-legged pet with you in a carrier or on a lead, as well as booking a pet-friendly cabin or a place in the kennels.

Here are some useful tips for your ferry trip from Tenerife to Gran Canaria:
- The port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is one of the busiest in the Canary Islands, so it’s best to arrive there at least 45 min before departure. If you are traveling with a vehicle, it’s highly recommended to be at the port 1.5 hr ahead of the ferry’s departure.
- The sea can get a bit choppy, so if the waves get to you, consider taking seasickness medication before the trip. As always, you can discuss your options with your doctor or pharmacist.
- For the longer journeys to Gran Canaria from Tenerife, we recommend that you book a cabin for greater comfort and privacy. Alternatively, you can book a seat in the VIP lounge, which often comes with priority boarding.

Where to take the ferry from Tenerife to Gran Canaria
You can travel by ferry to Gran Canaria from the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the island. The city is located in the northeast of Tenerife, about 15 km from Tenerife North Airport and approximately 60 km from Tenerife South Airport.
Bus 20 takes you from Tenerife North Airport to Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 25 min. To get to the capital from Tenerife South Airport, you can catch bus 10, which takes around 50 min.
Where does the ferry arrive in Gran Canaria?
Ferries from Tenerife normally arrive at 2 ports in Gran Canaria: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Agaete.
- Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is on the eastern side of the island’s northern coast. The port is 5 km from the center of the island capital. There are several bus routes that connect the port to different city areas.
- The seaside town of Agaete is the closest port to Tenerife, approximately 33 km west from Las Palmas. Bus route 103 runs regularly from the capital to Agaete.
Both ports are well-equipped, with plenty of useful amenities nearby, such as cafés, restaurants, shops, hotels, banks and ATMs.
