There are 3 ferry ports on the island of Elba:
- Portoferraio: it is the main port of the island, located in the capital of Elba. It is close to Marciana, Procchio and Marina di Campo. Ferries from Piombino, in Tuscany, reach Piombino year-round.
- Rio Marina: it is located on the eastern side of the island, and is close to several popular beaches and the charming village of Porto Azzurro. You can reach Rio Marina from Piombino, as well as the island of Pianosa.
- Cavo: this port is located on the northeastern part of Elba, in one of the island’s most popular tourist resorts. It is also the port closest to the Tuscan mainland. Cavo is also connected to the port of Piombino, on the Italian mainland.
Useful info: Keep in mind that most ferries from mainland Italy arrive in Portferraio. If you want to avoid the island's more popular areas and enjoy a quicker crossing, Rio Marina and Cavo are great options.

Ferries to Elba primarily depart from Molo Elba in the port of Piombino, a seaside town located in the region of Tuscany near the city of Livorno. Blu Navy usually departs from Pier 1 or 2 in Piazzale Premuda.
You can reach Piombino from all parts of Italy by car, bus, train, and, of course, by ferry.
There are 2 railway stations in the city: Piombino Centrale and Piombino Marittima (it ends in front of the port). The closest airport to Piombino is Pisa, about 109km away.
The port of Piombino is located less than 2 km from the city center and train station. If you're traveling with a vehicle but want to leave it behind, there are several parking lots in the Piombino port area, both free and paid.
From Piombino you can reach all 3 ports in Elba: Portoferraio, Rio Marina and Cavo. Portoferraio is the biggest and most popular port as it offers the most frequent connections.
Useful info: You can also reach Elba from the nearby island of Pianosa. But most travelers visit Elba first before continuing on to Pianosa.
