Ferries Andros

You can take advantage of regular discounts offered by ferry companies to certain groups of passengers. While these discounts may vary from one company to another, they are typically as follows:

• Infants and children up to 4: 100%
• Children aged 5 to 10: 50%
• Students (Greek universities): 50%
• Travelers with disabilities: 50%

Discounted ticket rates are also available to members of loyalty programs.

The best time to book your ferry tickets to Andros depends on your travel plans and flexibility. For trips during the peak summer season (July and August), we recommend you book at least 1-2 months in advance, especially if you are traveling with a car or during the weekend.

If you are planning to visit Andros in the shoulder months (namely May, September, and October), booking your ferry tickets a few weeks ahead of your departure date is usually enough. Keep in mind though that the island gets a bit busy around Easter.

During the low season (November to April), the island is less busy and you can book your ferry tickets closer to your departure. Keep in mind though that ferries run less frequently during this period and some routes operate seasonally.

Andros, the second largest island in the Cyclades, is located a stone’s throw north of Tinos. In contrast to its sun-drenched, whitewashed neighbors, Andros stands out for its lush mountains, flowing springs, pristine beaches, and rich maritime history. 

The island is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with many marked hiking trails snaking through forests with waterfalls, and coastal paths to explore. Beaches include everything from secluded coves with crystal-clear waters, to lively shores with beach bars and water sports. Andros also has an impressive local cuisine, with froutalia (a hearty omelet with sausages and potatoes) and homemade spoon sweets being among its many highlights.

With a strategic location in the northern Cyclades, Andros is great to begin island-hopping through the Aegean. The island has year-round and seasonal ferry connections to  Athens, as well as many of the Cycladic islands and Evia.

Here are some useful tips for your ferry trip to Andros:

• We highly recommend arriving at the port at least 1 hour before your departure to ensure a smooth boarding. This is especially important if you are traveling with a car or during the summer and major public holidays when Andros gets busy.
• Although most ferry rides to Andros are short, the sea can get a bit choppy. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider taking seasickness medication, such as Dramamine tablets. As always, discuss your options with your pharmacist or doctor.
• Pack a sweater or light jacket for the ferry trip, as the air-conditioned lounges can get chilly.
• If you are looking for a family-friendly Greek island, Andros has it all, from impressive sandy beaches and hiking trails to great food that will please everyone.
• With charming churches and stunning views, it is no surprise that Andros is also one of the best Greek islands for a summer wedding.
• Culture lovers should not miss the opportunity to visit the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chora, one of the best museums in the Cyclades.

Most ferry routes to Andros are operated by conventional ferries, however some connections are served by high-speed catamarans. Due to the relatively short travel time, cabins are not typically available, but you may have the option of standard deck/lounge seating, numbered airplane-style seats, and VIP/business seats.

All ferries have air-conditioned lounges for greater comfort, a bar for purchasing drinks and snacks during the trip, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Other amenities typically include car decks for the transportation of vehicles and kennels for larger pets.

Andros has 1 main ferry port, located in the village of Gavrio, on the island’s northwestern coast. Near the port, you will find many cafes and restaurants for a bite or drink, shops for any last-minute purchases, as well as hotels, car rental services, a municipal parking lot, and other useful services.

Gavrio is about 30 km west of the capital town of Chora and is accessible by car, taxi, and the local bus service.
