Here are 8 of our favorite beaches on the island:
- Agia Anna: thanks to the film The Big Blue, which filmed some of its scenes here, this has become the most popular beach on the island. Dive in its deep waters and enjoy the view. Don’t forget your snorkeling gear!
- Mouros: this beach is characterized by turquoise waters and a rocky landscape. It is accessible via a hiking trail and you can find a small restaurant with a tremendous view nearby. There’s no natural shade.
- Agios Pavlos: just over 5km from Aegiali, Agios Pavlos is a pristine sand formation with calm and clear waters. There is a traditional taverne at the beach.
- Aegiali: the beach in the village of Aegiali has soft white sand and clear waters. There are some sun loungers and umbrellas, as well as bars and cafes.
- Maltezi: it is close to Katapola and you can get there either on foot (30 min hike) or via small boat. There are some visitor amenities and a food truck.
- Levrossos: this is a sandy tree-lined beach with crystal clear waters that can be reached by a 20 min hike from Aegiali. There is a taverne and some rooms and it is also nude-friendly.
- Kalotaritissa: the golden beach of Kalotaritissa is unlike any other on the island. Its inviting sand is perfect for relaxation. During summer, boat trips run from Kalotaritissa to the uninhabited island of Krambousa.
- Paradisia: the partly sandy beach of Paradisia is simply paradisiacal! The beach is great if you’re looking to relax by the crystal-clear sea.

Amorgos is an island with a rich history. In fact, it’s said that the island has been inhabited since the prehistoric era. There are traces of several civilizations that thrived on the island, including Minoans, Milesians, Naxians, Romans, Venetians, and Ottomans.

On the 6th of August, a big fest is held in Chora, while around the 15th of August, festivals take place in Lagada, just above the port of Aegiali. There is live music and locals dance under the sound of Greek music.

Food in Amorgos
You can’t leave the island without tasting some of the local delicacies and drinking a shot or two of the famous rakomelo (strong alcoholic drink infused with honey). The island is also famous for its dairy products, legumes and sesame.

Transportation in Amorgos
The best way to get around Amorgos is by private vehicle. You can bring your own vehicle on board the ferry to the island or rent one there.
From May to October there is a frequent regional bus service from Chora to the ports, smaller villages and beaches of Amorgos. Some beaches of the islands are accessible with a sea bus as well. You can also find taxis all over the island.
