Information about Amorgos
With its wild landscape and an almost untouched rhythm, Amorgos effortlessly draws you into a slower, more soulful pace of life. At the heart of it all lies Chora, one of the most picturesque towns in the Cyclades, where you’ll wander through mazelike alleys with Venetian windmills overlooking courtyards bursting with bougainvillea.
Perched precariously on a wind-swept cliff high above the Aegean, the Monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa is nothing short of jaw-dropping. Aside from being an architectural wonder, this is a place that offers panoramic views and unforgettable moments of stillness.
In Amorgos, you will encounter a striking mosaic of rugged peaks, tucked-away coves, and some of the best beaches in Greece. Agia Anna, made famous by the film The Big Blue, is the uncontested highlight, but beaches like Kalotaritissa, Mouros, and Levrossos have their own charm and crystal waters that beckon for a swim.
Whether you're wandering the port towns of Aegiali and Katapola, diving into the blue silence of underwater caves, or following hiking trails past olive groves and ancient ruins, Amorgos will steal your heart with its mix of untamed beauty and heartfelt hospitality.
Tips for your trip to Amorgos
Check out some helpful tips for a comfortable ferry trip and a rewarding stay in Amorgos:
- We recommend arriving at the port at least 1 hour before departure, especially if you are traveling with your vehicle during the summer months.
- To explore every inch of Amorgos, consider taking your car or motorbike on the ferry. The island is pretty big, and a private vehicle is the best way to get around. From May to October, there is a frequent regional bus service from Chora to the ports, smaller villages, and beaches of Amorgos, but a car or motorbike will grant you complete freedom of movement.
- Don’t forget to bring a light sweater on board, as air conditioning on Greek ferries is notoriously strong and temperatures can drop at night while at sea.
- If you want to experience Amorgos without the crowds but with the weather still being perfect for the beach and other activities, then we recommend a late summer/early fall trip, as it is one of the warmest Greek islands in September.
- Amorgos is well-connected by ferry to neighbouring Cycladic islands and offers you the opportunity to indulge in an island-hopping adventure or schedule a day trip. Here are some short ferry crossings from Amorgos:
