1. Agistri
Looking for a destination close to Athens, the Greek capital, for a relaxing break? You won’t find better than Agistri! The island is one of the top options for short weekend getaways, as well as more carefree days by the sea.
The paradisiacal island in the Saronic Gulf has verdant landscapes and crystal-clear turquoise waters, where you can find the peace that you need. Chalikiada, Dragonera, Magiza, and Mariza are some of the beaches that will enchant you with their otherworldly beauty. Most beaches on the island have no amenities, so you can enjoy a calm and chill atmosphere. On the other hand, this means that you should bring your own umbrella so you can protect yourself from the sun!
Agistri might not have many sights, but it is a happy place for outdoor activities lovers. Hiking, kayaking and long walks in nature are waiting for you! The island is also perfect for cycling, and you can bring your bike for free on most ferries traveling to the island. Then again, if you love camping, there are several popular camping spots around the island.
The ferry ride to Agistri from the port of Piraeus is very short, and you can find up to 7 departures a day operated by Blue Star Ferries and Saronic Ferries. The ferry crossing to the port of Megalochori (Myloi) takes only 50 minutes by high-speed ferry, while the ferry ride to the port of Skala takes 1.5 hours with a conventional ferry. Piraeus - Agistri ferry tickets are pretty cheap, ranging from €13 to €19.

2. Kythnos
Kythnos is a unique destination in the Cyclades. This is an island where you can relax and have fun far from the crowds and noise of more popular Greek islands. So, Kythnos is the place to be if you want to enjoy peace and rest during your 2023 vacation.
The island is pretty close to Athens and is a great destination for a long weekend or a longer stay. It has over 60 beaches, with the impressive Kolona beach standing out as one of the most beautiful ones in the Aegean!
In Kythnos, you can admire the unspoilt nature and explore picturesque villages. The trails of Kythnos lead to remote coasts and archeological sites. In the settlements of Merichas and Messaria (or Chora) you will find everything you need during your stay. To reach Kythnos, you can catch a ferry either from the port of Piraeus or from the port of Lavrio near Athens. The fastest way to get to Kythnos is from the Lavrio port. Ferries from Lavrio to Kythnos run up to 4 times a day. The ferry trip takes 1.5-2.5 hours, depending on the operator, and ferry tickets in 2023 start at €15. The ferry companies serving the route are Karystia Travel, Triton Ferries, Blue Star Ferries, Goutos Lines, and Seajets.
If you prefer to depart from the port of Piraeus, there are normally 3 weekly ferry crossings from Piraeys to Kythnos served by Zante Ferries, with tickets starting at around €30. The ferry ride takes approximately 3 hours.

3. Chania (Crete)
Chania is one of the most welcoming cities in Greece and one of the best destinations for a summer vacation in 2023. Starting from the second biggest city in Crete, you have the chance to swim in wonderful beaches, make excursions, drink raki, and visit impressive monuments. The beaches of Chania are truly some of the most beautiful in the world! Visit the popular Balos and explore the turquoise waters of the exquisite Elafonissi.
The Chania area is also well-known for its virgin landscapes, including gorges, caves and waterfalls. If you love hiking, you should definitely cross the gorge of Samaria. Moreover, there are many important historical and cultural sites to explore, such as Ancient Kydonia, the old Venetian port and the palia poli (old town) of Chania.
Let’s see how you can travel to Chania. The Cretan port is connected to Piraeus port by ferry all year round. The Piraeus - Chania ferry route is operated by Anek Superfast, often in collaboration with Blue Star Ferries. There are 1-2 daily ferries to Chania, and the trip takes around 8.5 hours.

4. Koufonisia
Koufonisia is one of the first Greek destinations that come to mind when talking about summer slump and dreamy beaches. If you believe that you deserve some lazy moments in the Greek islands in summer 2023, then a trip to Koufonisia is the perfect choice! Our favorite beach in Koufonisia is Pori, which enchants visitors with its blue-green waters. From there, you can reach the amazing Ksilobatis sea caves by boat.

If you wish to explore some of the neighboring islands, you can easily get to Kato Koufonisi or plan an island-hopping trip to more islands in the Cyclades, such as Iraklia, Naxos, Mykonos, Donousa, and many more!
As for getting to Koufonisia from mainland Greece, you can catch a ferry from the port of Piraeus all year round. In summer, there are 1-3 daily ferries from Piraeus to Koufonisia, and the companies serving the route are Seajets and Blue Star Ferries.
High-speed ferry tickets to Koufonisia are at around €85, while tickets for the conventional ferry start at about €51. The ferry trip usually lasts 5 to 7.5 hours.

5. Serifos
If you are dreaming of magnificent Cyclades landscapes and magical villages, Serifos is the ideal place to visit in summer 2023! In Serifos, you can find beaches for every taste, try mouth-watering dishes and take countless pictures in its breathtaking Chora town. The beaches in Serifos present a great variety; in Psili Ammos you can swim in turquoise waters, while Vagia beach is perfect for snorkeling.

Serifos is also connected with Milos, Sifnos, Kimolos, and other islands in the Cyclades. The Piraeus - Serifos ferry route is served up to 4 times a day in the summer, and the companies normally operating on the route are Seajets, Zante Ferries and Aegean Sea Lines.
Ferry tickets from Piraeus to Serifos range from €37 to €60, and the ferry trip duration ranges from 2 hours to 4.5 hours, depending on the vessel type.

6. Skyros
Skyros is one the hidden treasures of the Sporades island complex. It is an ideal destination for travelers seeking peaceful moments far from the crowds and an authentic vibe. Let alone the island’s mouth-watering recipes, such as ladopita (deep-fried dough topped with soft white cheese and honey) and the famous lobster pasta dish.
In Skyros, you can relax on quiet beaches and explore wild landscapes, walk in the Byzantine castle over Chora town, admire the unique Skyros architecture, and visit Mouries Farm to meet the miniature Skyrian horse, a rare horse breed protected on the island. With its important nature reserves and fauna protection areas, the island is a top destination for nature lovers.
To get to Skyros, you should first reach the port of Kymi in Evia, about 2.5 hours from Athens. The Kymi - Skyros ferry route is served by Skyros Shipping Co and is available 2 times a day. The trip duration is about 1.5 hours and tickets start at €19.

7. Anafi
Vacation in Anafi means slowing down and enjoying the traditional architecture and jaw-dropping landscapes of the island. The beautiful island in the Cyclades has charming beaches, pristine nature and awesome hiking trails. The sandy beach of Roukounas is camper- and nude-friendly, while Klisidi beach has emerald waters and seaside tavernas with great food.
If you enjoy adventure, Anafi offers many opportunities for hiking and rock climbing. The most popular trail leads to Kalamos, the top of the second highest monolith in Europe. Getting there might not be easy, but the view is rewarding. You can reach Anafi by ferry from the port of Piraeus in Athens. The ferry route from Piraeus to Anafi is served by Blue Star Ferries and is available 3-4 times a week. The ferry trip duration is 8-10.5 hours and tickets start at €58.

8. Aegina
Aegina is a popular island in the Saronic Gulf. As it is very close to Athens, it is a great option for a 3-day getaway, but the lively atmosphere, many sights and great seafood will make you want to stay a few more days.
Yes, Aegina has beautiful beaches with transparent emerald waters, such as Agia Marina, Vagia Anes Ferries and Portes. But what makes the island special are its artistic and historical attractions! The Temple of Aphaia, the Christos Kapralos Museum, the archaeological Site of Kolona, and the house of Nikos Kazantzakis are just some of the island’s many cultural sights.
Walk around the cobbled alleys and neoclassical buildings of Aegina town and explore the colorful floating markets at the port of Aegina. And, of course, don’t forget to try the local pistachio delicacies!

The ferry ride takes from 40 minutes to over 1 hour, depending on the type of vessel, and ticket prices range between €9 and €19 for a single ticket.

9. Samothrace
Want to get away from the buzz and the crowds, and find inner peace? Then, Samothrace, an island with a hippie vibe, is the place you have been looking for in 2023!
The island is located in the North Aegean and stands out for its unspoilt landscapes and sense of absolute freedom. During your vacation in Samothrace you can swim in wild beaches and become one with nature at the island's natural pools (vathres). There are over 100 natural pools created by waterfalls, such as the popular Gria Vathra and Fonias.

The best way to reach the island in 2023 is by ferry from the port of Alexandroupoli in northern Greece. The Alexandroupoli - Samothrace ferry route is available all year round, usually with 1 departure a day. The route is served by Zante Ferries and the trip takes less than 2 hours. 10. Lemnos
Since we have moved to the North Aegean, what do you think about a trip to Lemnos in summer 2023?
Vacation in Lemnos is a perfect way to relax away from the crowds. In the volcanic island in northern Greece, you can do long hikes in nature, try local delicacies and swim in beaches for every taste. If you want to depart starting from Athens, there is normally 1 weekly ferry from Piraeus to Lemnos by Blue Star Ferries and 4 weekly ferries from Lavrio to Lemnos by Seajets.

11. Folegandros
The untamed Folegandros is one of the best destinations for relaxing holidays in the Cyclades in 2023. Quaint alleys, a majestic nature and beaches with crystal-clear waters make up the perfect scenery for a summer vacation. As for the Lavrio - Folegandros ferry connection, the trip duration is around 12.5 hours. The ferry company serving the route is Blue Star Ferries, normally departing once a week, and ferry ticket prices start at €28.

12. Paxi
Did you watch the Greek show Maestro and you haven’t stopped thinking about that beautiful island ever since? Indeed, Paxi is one of the best Greek destinations to visit this summer.
Holidays in Paxi combine full relaxation and a sense of approachable luxury, which is one of the island’s special features. Paxi island is famous for its picturesque fishing villages, exquisite nature landscapes, and fairytale beaches. Enjoy the sunset at Erimitis beach and have fun at the beach bar in Monodendri, which has great visitor amenities.
